[Canada] SaskPower scholarship program
Awards description: The SaskPower scholarship program is open to all Saskatchewan residents. There are two scholarship categories:
- Entrance: for students entering first-year studies.
- Continuing: for students entering second-year studies and beyond.
- Up to three scholarships in each category will be awarded each academic year.
- Scholarship value is $3,000.
- Scholarships are presented for one year and are not continuous for future years.
- Scholarships are presented on a one-time basis; recipients may only receive one SaskPower scholarship or post-secondary award during their studies.
Eligibility: To be eligible for a SaskPower scholarship, a student must:
- Demonstrate strong academic achievement.
- Be enrolled in a full-time certificate, diploma or degree program at an accredited post-secondary institution in Saskatchewan with preference given to programs related to the electrical industry which may include, but are not limited to, engineering, trades, technology and business programs.
- Be a Saskatchewan resident
You are considered a Saskatchewan resident if any one of the following is true: you have always lived in Saskatchewan; you or your spouse filed a Saskatchewan income tax return for the last tax year; or, your parents filed a Saskatchewan tax return for the last tax year.
Dependents of SaskPower employees are not eligible to apply for this scholarship program. Although students are eligible to apply for this scholarship and the SaskPower Diversity Awards Program, the same student cannot receive both awards.
Criteria for selection:
Entrance scholarship applicants must be grade 12 graduates with academic standings of at least 80 per cent in the following level 30 classes:
- English A30 or French A30
- Math (one 30 Level)
- English B30 or French B30
- Science (one 30 Level)
- Social Studies (30 Level)
- two electives (30 Level)
Scholarship applicants must have an academic standing of at least 80 per cent average in their last completed year of study and be full-time students. Community involvement and participation in extracurricular activities may be considered if two or more applicants demonstrate equal academic achievement.
All applicants must complete the application form and submit it directly to the awards office of their accredited Saskatchewan post-secondary institution, stamped received no later than September 30.
Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.
