[Denmark] PhD Scholarship within Enzyme BioProcess Technology
Novozymes BioProcess Academy invites applications for a PhD scholarship.
The deadline for submission of applications is at 12.00 noon August 20th 2007.
PhD Scholarship
A three year PhD Scholarship within Membrane Assisted Enzyme Fractionation is available at the Dept. of Chemical Engineering, DTU. The PhD projects will be carried out within the Novozymes BioProcess Academy. The Academy is a close research and PhD educational cooperation, i.e. with co-supervision and co-financing, between The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and the company Novozymes A/S – the latter being a world leading enzyme producing company.
Project description
An enzyme concentrate produced by fermentation will often contain two or more enzyme activities. From the application viewpoint then it can be necessary to remove the side activity. This can be done by a number of methods including chromatography, crystallization etc. The aim of this project will be to develop a suitable membrane fractionation process and to assess the economics of such membrane processes for industrial scale production for relevant applications such as pharmaceutical and dairy enzyme production.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates that have a strong background in biochemical engineering with keen interests in industrially oriented bioprocess research. For each position, the candidate should be innovative and have an interest in accomplishing academically driven, experimental work at both lab scale and pilot scale levels. Candidates having enzyme protein purification and/or down stream processing experience, preferably within membrane technology, will be favored.
The candidate must posses a lot of personal drive with a “hands on†approach. High level oral and written communications skills in English are required in order to interact with the different groups and functions within the Novozymes organization.
Candidates must have an MSc degree in Chemical Engineering or Process Biotechnology or equivalent. The successful candidate will be part of Novozymes BioProcess Academy and will be enrolled in the PhD degree program of Chemistry, Biotechnology, and Chemical Engineering at The Technical University of Denmark. The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. Please note: The scholarships for each of the advertised PhD projects are subject to academic approval at The Technical University of Denmark.
Formal requirements
Information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the PhD studies is included in the general rules of DTU, which may be found via: http://www.dtu.dk/English/education/Phd_Education.aspx or obtained by contacting the PhD program office at DTU at e-mail: phdadm@adm.dtu.dk (tel: +45 4525 1176). Please note: International applicants must supply original educational transcripts and lists of grades and weighted grade averages that are (re-)calculated according to the general rules for PhD enrolment at DTU. Please consult the PhD program office at DTU phdadm@adm.dtu.dk for assistance for this if needed.
