[Germany] European Masters Program in Computational Logic - University of Bozen
The European Masters Program in Computational Logic at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano is organised as part of its Master in Computer Science offer (Laurea Specialistica). The Master comprises 120 ECTS credits and lasts two years (including thesis). Each year’s course is divided into two semesters. The courses of academic year 2007/2008 will start in October 2007. The continuation of studies towards the PhD doctoral degree is possible.
Prerequisites
The following prerequisites must be fulfilled by students applying for the Masters programme:
- a three-year Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a comparable university-equivalent qualification (e.g., the Italian three-years Laurea).
Italian and European students with good grades who will finish the Bachelor study by the last application deadline (August 2007) are also encouraged to apply early for this program. - language certificate in English. Since the medium of instruction in the Masters Programme is English, students whose first language is not English must demonstrate competence in English. If you are an English native speaker or you had your BSc in a pure English environment, the certificate is not necessary. We recognise many different tests. In the most commonly available, the following minimum scores are suggested:
- TOEFL: 550 Points
- IELTS: Level 6.0
- good knowledge of the foundations of mathematical logic and/or artificial intelligence, for example by having attended a course on logic or artificial intelligence at bachelor level.
- Application form
- Curriculum Vitae
- Statement of purpose
- English language certificate as stated above
- certified copy translated in English of the BSc University degree diploma;
- certified copy translated in English of the high school diploma;
- certified copy translated in English of the reports on university examinations (transcripts), including for each passed exam: the marks awarded, the date when the examination was passed, the credits and/or the hours of the lectures and labs; optionally, a brief description of the course and the total credits/hours needed to earn the degree can be included;and the filled enrollment report form including the summary of the above information;
- Note that the following documents are not needed: no official declaration of equivalent value, no Italian test certificate, no post-secondary school certificate, no detailed study program.
- For Chinese students only: the original APS certificate obtained from the German embassy in Beijing - making an interview with the applicants and check the relevant documents:

Application
If you fulfil the prerequisites, you may apply for the European Master’s Program in Computational Logic using this application form. Please fill in the form and select (if you wish) a second university in the consortium where you would like to study.
Your application must contain the following documents:
If you have problems with the above documentation, you may contact the FUB EMCL Information Desk for clarifications.
The deadlines for academic year 2007/2008 are:
- 10 February 2007: early deadline for all students (non-European and European).
(notification of acceptance: 10 March 2007) - 15 June 2007: late deadline for all students (non-European and European).
(notification of acceptance: 15 July 2007)
If the applicant is interested to apply for an accommodation, it is warmly advised to submit the application to the Master together with the application for the accommodation by the 5 June 2007 (strict eadline); see below for details about the application for an accommodation. - 24 August 2007: last deadline only for European students starting at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Italy.
(notification of acceptance: 11 September 2007) - 31 October 2007: deadline for students already enrolled at Free University of Bozen-Bolzano to request to be transfered to the European Master’s Program in Computational Logic. Students are transfered to the EMCL if they meet the prerequisites above and the application is accepted.
Once the application has been accepted by the consortium, non-European students may start the procedure to get the student VISA from the Italian representative authority in their country (usually the Italian embassy or consulate).
