[India] Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) Fellowships 2007
The IDSA is India`s premier strategic and security studies think tank. It has an outstanding infrastructure and work environment for research and policy analysis. It also offers excellent opportunities for professional growth.
The Institute invites applications for Fellowships, which are normally tenable for three years, on the following indicative topics:
- Nuclear non-proliferation/Disarmament/Proliferation of WMD
- Crisis in West Asia, Conflict Resolution in West Asia
- Terrorism;
- Maoist Insurgency/Internal Security Issues.
Proposals on other topics preferably with a policy focus would also be entertained and our website may be seen for possible areas of research.
Category wise qualifications of Fellows:
Research Fellow: PhD or MPhil (at least B+) or MA/BE/MSc/MTech degree (at least second class) with a minimum research experience of about 5, 8 or 10 years respectively and published work of a high order in refereed journals. Candidates should have the ability to manage academic programmes and work in inter-disciplinary teams. Scale of Pay: Rs 12,000-375-18,000 with admissible allowances.
Associate Fellow: PhD or MPhil (at least B+) or M.Tech/BE/MA/MSc (at least second class); Research experience of about 3, 5, or 7 years respectively and published work in refereed journals desirable. Candidates should have the ability to work in inter-disciplinary teams.
Scale of pay: Rs 8,000-275-13,500; and admissible allowances.
N.B.:
- In case of unavailability of suitable candidates with prescribed minimum experience, the selection committee may consider relaxation. Higher emoluments could be considered for exceptionally qualified and meritorious candidates.
- Cross-fertilization of ideas and an inter-disciplinary approach to problem solving/issues are an integral part of the IDSA`s mandate. Therefore, academically inclined experts from related fields such as the Foreign Service, Armed Forces, media, and the physical sciences are also encouraged to apply for Fellowship positions, provided they have policy/operational experience of 10 years for Fellowships at the level of Research Fellow.
- Members of SC/ST/OBC and minorities are encouraged to apply provided they have the requisite qualifications. Necessary certificates should be enclosed in proof.

Selection Procedure: Selection will be made from the short-listed candidates called for assessment (including interview) in New Delhi. IDSA will pay AC second class rail fare by the shortest route. Appointment would be offered subject to availability of fellowship positions and applicants having outstanding track record and potential. In case sufficient number of suitable candidates are not available, all the Fellowships may not be awarded.
