PhD Scholarship: Nematode community analysis as a bioindicator of heavy metal pollution in Ireland The Molecular Ecology and Nematode Research Group at the Institute of Technology Carlow in Ireland have been awarded a 3 year PhD scholarship, starting in October 2007, to investigate the effects of heavy metals on nematode communities.
The project is fully funded by the Irish Environmental Protection Agency (www.epa.ie) and will be carried out in mining sites of Co. Tipperary, employing morphological and molecular approaches for nematode identification. Applications are now invited from suitably qualified candidates, who should hold at least a 2.1 BSc (Hons) degree in nematology, zoology, biology, molecular biology or related discipline.
Knowledge of statistics would be essential whereas, while nematode identification skills would be desirable, such training, along with training in bioinformatics will be provided.
