[Italy] PhD Summer School in European Parties and Party Systems - European University Institute
Advanced students studying for research (MPhil/PhD) degrees with a special interest in comparative research in the areas of European politics, political parties and democratic performance. The maximum number of participants is likely to be 22 or 24.
Objectives: The Summer School will be taught by a team of leading European academics specialising in comparative research into European politics, political parties and party systems. It will comprise two weeks teaching, each containing five 3-hour and five 4-hour teaching sessions. The total 70 hours of class contact will be made up of roughly equal proportions of staff lectures, student presentations and seminar discussion.
There will also be a session in which leading journal editors offer practical advice on getting published. The Summer School will be directed by Peter Mair (EUI & Leiden) and Hans Keman (Free University, Amsterdam ). Additional faculty will include Ingrid van Biezen, Donatella Della Porta, Kris Deschouwer, Richard S. Katz, Petr Kopecky, Richard Luther, Susan Scarrow, and Alan Ware.
Courses:
The courses will be organised around the theme of Political Parties and Democracy.
