[Netherlands] PhD Innovation in Scintillometry - Wageningen University
The PhD student will work in the framework of a STW funded project entitled “Innovations in Scintillometry - Measuring surface fluxes of water vapor, sensible heat and momentum on field to kilometer scalesâ€. The PhD student will work on the development of an optical scintillometer system to estimate surface fluxes on agricultural field scale (100 m). The Ph.D student will cooperate closely with a PostDoc researcher, who is involved in the development of a micro-wave scintillometer system to estimate fluxes on kilometer scale.
Requirements
University Graduate
The candidate should have a MSc in experimental physics or meteorology, with a sound knowledge of atmospheric turbulence and/or (optical) physics. Fluency in English, and programming skills in Matlab, Fortran and/or Pascal are requested. Experience with micro-meteorological or optical instrumentation and field-work are considered advantageous. The candidate must be prepared to carry out international field-work for several weeks to months.

The Meteorology and Air Quality group (MAQ) provides education in a wide range of atmospheric topics. The research focuses on the atmospheric boundary layer with particular interest in atmosphere - land interactions. Worldwide MAQ has a leading position in scintillometer research.
Conditions of employment
Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 2500 - 3000
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract: 1-4 years
Maximum hours per week: 38
Additional conditions of employment:
Salary amounts E 1956,- until 2502,- ( in the fourth year) per month on basis of 38 hours per week.
