Job description
The PhD-student will do research in the field of chemometrics on the the topic “data fusion”. During the last five years, enormous steps have been taken in the direction of powerful high-throughput analytical methods. High-quality data are being generated at a rate that only a couple of years ago was unimaginable. However, progress in data analysis has not kept up; Moreover it has been realized that relevant information can only be obtained by the combination or fusion of different data modalities such as NMR and MS fingerprints. The task of the PhD will be the development of methods and strategies to analyse these complex data structures, either based on modifications of existing methods, or by developing new routes. The development of this methodology will be done for several application areas, originating from the collaborative projects of the department. (i)Combination of different imaging techniques with genomics data for better brain tumour diagnosis ;(ii) Combination of metabolomics and proteomics data for biomarker search and (iii) Merging LC_MS and NMR fingerprints for drug discovery. Requirements
University Graduate
Applicants should have a MSc degree or equivalent (drs., ir.) in a relevant field, such as chemistry, physics or computer science. Applicants from outside The Netherlands are required to send a list of all subjects in their MSc and BSc periods, with marks, and the time spent on each subject; this is needed to ensure that all new PhD students have comparable levels of education. Basic knowledge of statistics is required and knowledge on multivariate data analysis is recommended.

Conditions of employment

• Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 2500 - 3000
• Maximum salary amount in Euro’s a month 2558
• Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
• Duration of the contract: one and a half year, with a possible extention to four years
• Maximum hours per week: 40
