[Norway] PhD Fellowship - Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)
A PhD fellowship is available in the Chemical Reactor Technology Group at the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway.
Topic: Modeling and simulation of multiphase bubble column reactors with a population balance description of the bubble size distribution. The dynamic 3D model equations should preferably be solved by the least squares spectral element method.
The project is part of a larger research program finnanced by the Norwegian Research Council. The aim of the present project is to provide advanced simulation program tools for the chemical reactors employed by the Norwegian industry utilizing natural gas as feedstock. To develop a solid platform for future reactive flow modelling, the PhD will focus on the numerical issues and the novel impacts induced by the applications of multiphase models to reactive flows. Important processes involved: Steam methane reforming (SMR), Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, ammonia- and the methanol production.
Qualifications: A PhD student must hold an MSc degree in a subject relevant for
the project and have good knowledge of:
-
• multiphase fluid dynamics
• numerical methods
• scientific computing
• programming
Regulations: The PhD position is for a period of 3 years.
The PhD positions are remunerated according to salary code 1017, salary level 45-47 on the Norwegian state salary scale. This amounts to an annual gross salary of NOK 353200 to NOK 365300 of which 2 % is deducted for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. PhD candidates normally start at wage level 45.
NTNU’s PhD-rules require a master degree or equivalent with at least 5 years of studies and an average grade of A or B within a scale of A-E for passing grades (A best). Candidates from universities outside Norway are kindly requested to send a Diploma Supplement or a similar document, which describes in detail the study and grade system and the rights for further studies associated with the obtained degree: http://ec.europa.eu/education/policies/rec_qual/recognition/diploma_en.html
NTNU’s objective is to increase the number of females in scientific positions. Female applicants are therefore encouraged to apply.
Applicants must be able to communicate fluently in English (in speaking and writing). Applicants must indicate their level of language skills in English.
The appointment of the research fellow will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges.
Further information on the fellowships can be obtained from professor Hugo Atle Jakobsen, Tel: +47 73594132 or e-mail: jakobsen[at]chemeng.ntnu.no.
Information about the research group is available on the Department homepage: http://www.chemeng.ntnu.no/
Applications: Applications, diploma, publications, grade transcripts, Curriculum Vitae, and any other materials must be enclosed to the application.
The application may be sent electronically to Professor Hugo A Jakobsen by the application deadline 30 September 2008.
Applications should be send to:
