[Taiwan] Scholarship Program of Taiwan (SPOT) 2007 ~ 2008 MOE Scholarship

Grantor: Ministry of Education, Republic of China (Taiwan)
Scholarship Types: Undergraduate or postgraduate programs. Pre-degree Mandarin Language Enrichment Programs (LEP) is to be included as recipients’ choice for improving their language abilities.
Quotas of Awards: Two (2)
Benefits: A monthly stipend of NT $25,000 (approximately US$790) for undergraduate or LEP study, and NT $30,000 for a postgraduate program (Scholarship recipients are responsible for all housing, tuition fees, health insurance and travel costs).
Deadline of Application: March 31, 2007

Eligibility: US citizen who doesn’t hold the Republic of China (Taiwan) nationality or doesn’t have the status of an overseas Chinese student and other criteria (see SPOT details).

Duration:
a. Undergraduate program: maximum 4 years.
b. Master’s program: maximum 2 years.
c. Doctoral program: maximum 3 years.
d. LEP program: maximum 1 year.

For any combination of these study programs, the length of total award for each recipient is a maximum of five years.

Application Requirement: Applicants need to submit the following documents:
(1) Taiwan Scholarship Application Form with Study Planï¹”
(2) Proof of highest educational qualifications and academic performance must have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scaleï¹”
(3) Proof of application to enroll at local university/collegeï¹”
(4) Must have sufficient Chinese language proficiency in speaking and listening to be able to satisfy survival needs and maintain a very limited conversation on familiar topics; sufficient comprehension to read very simple connected written material in a form equivalent to usual printing and typescript.
