Science and industry increasingly demand experts with multidisciplinary skills:
people who can combine insights from mathematics, computing and data analysis with a sound scientific understanding to design innovative instruments and process huge data sets. The biotechnology, pharmaceutical and food industries are looking for people who can operate confidently at the interface of chemistry, physics and biology.
The 4-year PhD in Mathematical Biology and Biophysical Chemistry at the MOAC Doctoral Training Centre at Warwick University equips you with this multidisciplinary skills set, whether your first degree is in the life sciences or in an exact discipline such as mathematics, statistics or computing.
If you are an excellent students with a background in one of the natural sciences, mathematics, statistics, computing or engineering and you are interestred in becoming a multidisciplinary scientist, we invite you to apply to MOAC for a one-year MSc in Mathematical Biology and Biophysical Chemistry followed by a three-year PhD multidisplinary research project which will involve at least two supervisors drawn from Warwick’s science departments. Current research themes include instrumentation design and development, experimental design and model building for application in areas of DNA-protein complexes; fibrous proteins; analytical neurosciences and membrane proteins.
Dates and deadlines
We will be considering applicants from December onwards, and the places will be offered on an ongoing basis. We will host a number of Open Days which will take place on 13th Dec 2007, and 16th Jan, 13th Feb, 12th Mar, 16th April, 7th May and 11th June 2008. Studentship eligibility
Full studentships cover the course fees and also provide a stipend of £13,900 per annum. For a full studentship, candidates must be either UK citizens or foreign nationals who have been resident in the UK for the past three years and who either have settled status or EEA migrant worker status. EU citizens who do not fulfil residence criteria are eligible for a fees-only studentship. We also welcome all applicants who can provide their own funding.
