[UK] PhD Studentship – Developing a Computer Model of Interpersonal Emotion Regulation - University of Sheffield

PhD Studentship – Developing a Computer Model of Interpersonal Emotion Regulation
Institute of Work Psychology
University of Sheffield

Applications are invited for a studentship involving the development and testing of a computer simulation model of emotion influence between people. The studentship is attached to an ESRC-funded collaborative project investigating Emotion Regulation of Others and Self (EROS), led by the Institute of Work Psychology (IWP) at Sheffield University. It will be supervised by Drs. Peter Totterdell and David Holman at IWP.

The studentship is available from October 2008. It will commence with a 1-year funded taught Masters Course in Psychological Research (applicants who already have an equivalent ESRC-accredited qualification can be exempted from this part), followed by 3-years funded research leading to a PhD. The research includes testing an existing prototype simulation model (using Matlab Simulink) by comparing its behaviour with data collected from human volunteers. The student will have a good first degree (minimum 2.1) in Psychology or relevant discipline, will have demonstrated an aptitude for computational modelling, and will have UK residential eligibility.
