[UK] PhD studentship: Automated Face Recognition - University of West of England

PhD studentship: Automated Face Recognition
Machine Vision Laboratory
University of West of England

The position, supported by an EPSRC doctoral award, will be concerned with the development of innovative 3D facial recognition techniques. The project is closely related to a large EPSRC project currently underway to develop robust facial recognition technology based on 3D representations of the human face captured using photometric stereo. The PhD project will aim to advance the state of the art in the field by devising novel ways to deduce identity from 3D face data using hardware and techniques developed here at UWE’s Machine Vision Laboratory.

The laboratory’s current work is being undertaken in collaboration with Imperial College, the Home Office (Scientific Development Branch), General Dynamics UK Ltd and Identity Solutions Ltd and offers a unique opportunity to work within a motivated team in an exciting and topical multidisciplinary field. Further information relating to the work can be found at: http://www.uwe.ac.uk/cems/research/groups/mvl/projects/photoface.html. It is expected that the work will be published in journals and/or presented at international conferences.

This is a fixed-term studentship for 3 years. The bursary will be at the Research Council bursary rate, which is £12,600 in the academic year 2008-09, and is not subject to UK taxes. In addition, tuition fees will be waived for the duration of the bursary (3 years).
