[United State] Study Computer Security at Marmaount University

Computer security is a hot career track, especially in the Washington, DC, area. To meet the need for experts in the field, Marymount University (in conjunction with The George Washington University) has been awarded a grant by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to fund full scholarships with stipends for undergraduates (in last two years of the bachelor’s degree) or graduate students studying computer security, who commit to working for the federal government for two years following graduation.

The scholarships cover tuition, room and board, books, fees, and an annual stipend ($8,000 for undergraduate students and $12,000 for graduate students) for two years of study. Recipients must take one approved computer security or information assurance class per semester, plus attend a weekly, joint seminar with GW scholarship recipients. Undergraduate students, for example, could complete the last two years of their bachelor’s degree with the scholarship, while graduate students would be able to complete the master’s in Computer Science, as well as the graduate certificate in Computer Security and Information Assurance. The scholarship arrangement includes a paid internship at a federal agency, followed by the two years commitment to work for a federal agency after graduation.

THE DEADLINE FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS IS APRIL 9, 2007
.
Eligibility requirements include a minimum GPA of 3.0 at the undergraduate level or 3.2 at the graduate level; United States citizenship; and status as a full-time Marymount student, applicant, or accepted student for 2007 (with an expected graduation date by June 2009). Full details and the application are available online at http://www.marymount.edu/nsf. Questions? Contact Dr. Cynthia Cicalese at cynthia.cicalese@marymount.edu.

Recent scholarship recipients and Marymount graduates are currently working for the Department of Justice, General Accountability Office, National Security Agency, and the Institute for Defense Analyses. The scholarship provides opportunities for students with diverse backgrounds to become Computer Security and Information Assurance (CSIA) professionals and to help protect the safety and security of our nation’s information infrastructure.
