The AAOS Corporate Advisory Council Orthopaedic Learning Center International Scholarship is intended to provide US surgical skills access to deserving orthopaedic surgeons from diverse regions of the world.
Overview
Four $3,000 scholarships are awarded annually to travel to the United States to take part in an AAOS Orthopaedic Learning Center (OLC) surgical skills course. As part of the scholarship program experience, scholars are offered one- or two-day hospital and private practice visits designed to further enhance their overall experiences in the United States.
Selection Process
Effective 1 January 2006 four scholarships will be offered each year on a rotating basis to orthopaedic surgeons in one of four geographic regions of the world (See geographic regions and countries from their website).
The selection of the geographic region rotation is made by the AAOS International Committee. Announcement of the scholarship terms and the selected region are placed on the AAOS website and sent out to international orthopaedic associations and Orthopaedics Overseas program sites of the selected regions.
Criteria
The AAOS Scholarship Candidate Review Committee will select the four winners based on the following criteria:
1) Letters of recommendation
2) Leadership potential/desire to teach peers
3) Past achievements and awards
4) Stated reasons for wanting the opportunity to participate in an AAOS Orthopaedic Learning Center surgical skills course.
