[United States] Floriculture Industry Research and Scholarship Trust
FIRST is proud to offer 25 distinct scholarships geared toward students pursuing careers in all aspects of the floriculture industry; including production, research, business, marketing, and public gardens. Each scholarship is unique; having its own requirements and specifications. Scholarships are offered for graduate, undergraduate and vocational students in floriculture production, agribusiness, marketing, greenhouse production, horticulture business, public gardens, international studies…and more!
Eligibility
To Qualify for a FIRST Scholarship You Must:
1) Be pursuing a career that is in a horticulture-related field.
2) Have a minimum 3.0 grade point average to be considered for most scholarships. (Applicants with lower grade point averages may be considered if they have otherwise outstanding qualifications or extenuating circumstances.)
3) Either be a citizen or resident of the US or Canada—or be enrolled in an accredited educational institution in the US or Canada.

Ball Horticultural Company Scholarship.
Ball Horticultural Company is an international breeding, production and distribution corporation involved in nearly every facet of floriculture. Includes: Ball and PanAmerican Seed, Ball FloraPlant, ColorLink, Ball Superior (Canada) and Vegmo Plant, BV (Holland) plus 11 joint ventures around the world. This scholarship goes to students pursuing careers in commercial floriculture.
Richard E. Barrett Scholarship.
Richard E. Barrett Past President of BPFI (precursor to FIRST) has served in both the academic and commercial areas of horticulture. With a Ph.D. in plant breeding, he worked for Roy A. Nicholson and Co., the University of Guelph, Speedling, Inc. and Plants of Ruskin, Ruskin, Florida, from which he retired as a full partner. His scholarship goes to students pursuing careers in research and/ or education.
Ed Markham International Scholarship.
Ed Markham enjoyed a long career in the seed industry. He’s promoted hort industry cooperation and inspiration through his world travels and was a major player in the development of international tours for the BPI trade association. His scholarship goes to students studying horticulture marketing through international travel.
