[United States] Neighbor Scholarship - Texas Tech University
This 12-month scholarship is awarded by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and waives the non-resident portion of tuition. You are still responsible for the resident portion of tuition and the various fees applicable. The scholarship is applied directly to the tuition/fee bill. Student cannot be receiving an out of state waiver from another scholarship or from a graduate level teaching/research assistantship. Awards are for the following academic year beginning with the Fall 2007 Semester, carrying into the Spring 2008 Semester, and the Summer I & II 2008 Sessions. Award recipients are announced in May of 2007.
Priority is given to applicants who meet the following criteria:
- Students who have maintained exemplary academic performance and have excelled in the classroom. Minimum: Undergraduates with at least as 2.5 GPA; Graduate students with at least a 3.0 GPA.
- Continuing students who can document a change in financial situation since initial enrollment.
- Students who will be completing their academic program in 12 months time.
Eligibility:
- Student must be a bona fide native-born citizen and resident of one of the following countries: Argentina, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize (British Honduras), Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Columbia, Costa Rica, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, S. Vincent & the Grenadines, Surinam, Trinidad & Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela.
- Student must have resided in the Western (American) Hemisphere for at least five years.
- Student must be a full-time student in good academic standing.
- Student must NOT be a member of the Communist Party or a resident of Cuba.
- Student must intend to return to eligible country upon completion of his/her program of study.
