[United States] The National Book Scholarship Fund (NBS)
The National Book Scholarship Fund (NBSF)® provides local literacy programs throughout the United States with New Readers Press books and other educational materials needed to support their literacy initiatives. NBSF grants are made in the form of the New Readers Press materials requested in the grant proposal. Grants typically average $2,000 but have ranged from $500 to $5,000 depending on the needs of the applicant organization.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for an NBSF grant, applicant must:
1. have a clearly defined, specific need or project for the materials being requested. Alternatively, the organization may have a financial need for the requested materials.
2. provide evidence that the NBSF materials will be used directly with students receiving literacy instruction, and/or with literacy staff, tutors, or volunteers.
3. provide evidence that the materials requested will be used to support an educational program.
4. be willing to participate in public relations/public awareness activities.
5. not have received an NBSF grant during the 2004-2005 or 2005-2006 program cycles.
