[USA] Department of Latin American & Iberian Studies Scholarship Awards
Merit and need-based scholarships are awarded to UR students who are majoring in a language or enrolled in a language class. Scholarships are available for summer study abroad as well as for a semester or academic year.
Scholarships Awarded to Students in Latin American & Iberian Studies
Students majoring, minoring, or enrolled in the Department of Latin American and Iberian Studies are eligible for both merit- and need-based scholarships. The scholarships are co-sponsored with the Department of Modern Literatures and Cultures. Scholarships are available for summer study abroad as well as for a semester or academic year.
The deadline for scholarship applications for summer 2008 and 2008/2009 programs is February 15, 2008. Applications should be returned to Ms. Pamela Poe, MLC, Room 200, Puryear Hall or Ms. Phyllis Dudding, LAIS, G-16, Puryear Hall. Notification of scholarship awards will be made by April 1, 2008.

J. Gray Wright Scholarship
This scholarship is merit based and awarded to rising junior and senior majors (LAIS or MLC) for study on campus or abroad. Minimum grade point average 3.30 in general scholarship and 3.50 in the language required. Approximate amount: $3,500.00
Gotaas Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is need based and awarded to a Weshampton College student either majoring in French, German Studies, Russian Studies, or Spanish, or minoring in Chinese, Italian Studies, or Japanese. Approximate amount: $5,500.00
Holt Summer Study Abroad Scholarship
Holt Semester or Academic Year Scholarship
Holt scholarships are available for summer study abroad, for a semester or for an academic year. These scholarships are merit-based and awarded for participation in UR’s summer and academic semester/year programs in Argentina, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, Spain, China and Italy. Minimum grade point average is 3.0 in general scholarship and 3.30 in the language. Holt Scholarship Amounts (approximately):
Summer = $1900.00; Year = $1050.00
Don Quijote Scholarship
This scholarship is merit based and may be used for full year study abroad on a program approved by the Office of International Education in the following countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugual, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela. Requirements include a 3.0 GPA in general scholarship and a 3.5 in Spanish courses. Approximate amount: $3000.00
