[USA] Graduate Fellowships in History at The University of Arkansas
2009-2010 GRADUATE FELLOWSHIPS in HISTORY at the UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS
DISTINGUISHED DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS in the amount of $30,000 will be awarded to exemplary students for study in any field. They will be expected to complete the program in four years and write a dissertation of distinction. Qualified applicants will have:
- Completed an M.A. degree in history or closely related field. They should have completed their graduate level work with a GPA of 3.85 or better;
- Earned GRE scores of at least 650 (verbal) and a 5.5 or 6 on the writing component;
- Provided outstanding letters of recommendation; and
- Demonstrated service in the historical profession, such as participation in historical organizations, membership in honor societies, and publication of papers. Fellows will qualify for a full tuition waiver and will be expected to assume research and/or teaching positions in the department. The fellowship is renewable for up to three years. Application Deadline: 15 January 2009.
DOCTORAL ACADEMY FELLOWSHIPS in the amount of $20,000 will be awarded to outstanding students for study in any field. They will be expected to complete the program in four years and write a dissertation of distinction. Qualified applicants will have:
- Completed an M.A. degree in history or closely related field. They should have completed their graduate level work with a GPA of 3.65 or better. Outstanding students who have completed a BA with a 3.8 GPA at the honors level (i.e. written an exceptional honors thesis) may also be eligible;
- Earned GRE scores of at least 600 (verbal) and 5 on the writing component;
- Provided strong letters of recommendation;
- Demonstrated service in the historical profession, such as participation in meetings and conventions of historical organizations, membership in honors societies, and publication of papers. Fellows will qualify for a full tuition waiver and will assume research and/or teaching positions in the department. The fellowship is renewable for up to three years. Application Deadline: 15 January 2009.
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN LEVER TUITION FELLOWSHIPS will be awarded to qualified full-time graduate students from underrepresented groups who are U.S. citizens. The Lever Fellowship is a tuition only award and will not cover registration fees, books, housing, etc. A graduate student cannot hold a Lever fellowship and a graduate assistantship or be a full-time University of Arkansas employee. Lever fellows cannot receive any external scholarships, fellowships, traineeships, grants-in-aid, V.A. Benefits, or any other award that is provided specifically to cover tuition only. Application Deadline:: Fall semester – 15 June 2009; Spring semester – 15 November 2009; Summer semester – 15 March 2009.
DIANE D. BLAIR FELLOWSHIP IN SOUTHERN STUDIES up to the amount of $16,000 will be awarded to an outstanding student. Applicants should have an outstanding academic record, including exceptional letters of reference. Letters of application should document a long interest in the history of the American South. Application Deadline: 15 January 2009.
