If you’re looking for an opportunity to work as an intern at a newspaper where you will actually get to report rather than merely fetch coffee, this is the program for you! The average intern walks away with more than twenty real reporting clips.
IHS Summer journalism interns get real reporting experience, writing for a daily Freedom Communications newspaper in locations all over the U.S. Previous program participants have been placed at newspapers in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Dallas, and Orange County, CA.
IHS summer journalism interns will benefit from:
- a $1500 stipend.
- an expanded professional network.
- hands-on reporting experience at a major newspaper.
- working side by side with professional reporters.
- a travel allowance.
- a week-long journalism seminar to enhance your news reporting skills.
Former program participants have gone on to work for major publications such as:
- The Washington Post
- The Moscow Times
- The Economist
- The Financial Times
- The Orange County Register
- The Wall Street Journal
- The American magazine
Internship dates for the summer 2008 program may vary slightly, but placement will start in early June and end in August. To apply, successful applicants will have to submit:
- a resume
- several essays
- published writing samples
