Undergraduate Scholarship Program
Since 1953, the ASM Materials Education Foundation and leading ASM Chapters nationwide have awarded scholarships totaling over $1 million. Currently 37 scholarships are awarded annually through the ASM International Foundation, which is supported by member contributions and other gifts. Most of these awards include a certificate of recognition, travel and housing allowances for attendance at the awards ceremony during the Society’s annual Awards Dinner. The ASM Foundation Scholarship Awards and the ASM Foundation Technical & Community College Scholarship Awards are presented through local ASM chapters.
George A. Roberts Scholarships - Up to seven scholarships at $6,000 each. Established in 1995 through a generous contribution by Dr. George A. Roberts, Past President of ASM and Retired CEO of Teledyne, as an expression of his commitment to education and the materials science and engineering community.
William Park Woodside Founder’s Scholarship - One year full tuition of up to $10,000. Established in 1996 by Mrs. Sue Woodside Shulec in honor of her grandfather, William Park Woodside, a man whose vision and leadership evolved into the founding of ASM International.
Nicholas J. Grant Scholarship - One year full tuition. Established in 1990 by one of Dr. Grant’s former students, Dr. Joseph R. Lane. Created to honor Dr. Grant and recognize students who have excelled in the areas of scholarship, leadership and service.
ASM Outstanding Scholars Awards* - Three awards at $2,000 each, to recognize distinguished scholars.
Edward J. Dulis Scholarship - One award at $1,500. Established in 2003 by the family of Edward J. Dulis, who was a Fellow of ASM International.
John M. Haniak Scholarship - One award at $1,500. Established in 2003 by the family of John Myron Haniak, who was a life long dedicated member of ASM International.
Lucille & Charles A. Wert Scholarship – One year full tuition of up to $10,000. Established in 2006 through a generous bequest by Dr. & Mrs. Charles Wert as an expression of their commitment to education and the materials science and engineering community.
