University of Minnesota Red Pocket Scholarship 2008

Surces of Rd Pockets Scholarship
The Red Pockets Scholarship was created in 2004 as the result of generous donations to the China Center’s annual fund dive in honor of its 25th anniversary. The scholarship will provide an opportunity for University of Minnesota students to incorporate an educational or research experience in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau as part of their academic studies, internships, research, or professional training. The scholarship shall be used for the payment, partially or totally, of travel or tuition. Awards are between $250 and $1,500.

Eligibility

  • applicant must be enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program at the University of Minnesota
  • applicant must be in good academic standing, with a GAP of at least 3.00 (undergraduate student) or 3.5 (graduate student), with potential in their field
  • applicant must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident


Application Process
Complete the application packet including:

  • scholarship application form
  • faculty letter of recommendation (for graduate students, cannot be faculty adviser)
    current official transcript
  • personal statement of purpose (undergraduate student) or research proposal (graduate student)statement of support for research proposal from academic/faculty adviser (graduate student only

Selection Criteria

  • applicants should have a well-defined objective involving their program in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, or Macau
  • strong record of academic achievement
  • strong motivation and potential for independent accomplishment in his/her chosen field
  • Applications will be reviewed by a committee; scholarship recipients will be notified of scholarship awards by mail approximately three weeks after the application deadline.

Application Deadlines

  • December 10, 2007 - for expected study or research in the spring semester of 2008
  • March 31, 2008 - for expected study in the May session and summer session of 2008
  • July 28, 2008 - for expected study in the fall semester and winter break of 2008 and academic year of 2008-09
